The accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program at JWU Providence is specifically crafted for individuals looking to change careers and contribute meaningfully to the healthcare industry.
This nursing program spans four semesters and combines traditional classroom education with a hybrid format in the last two semesters, along with practical clinical experiences in various settings including large hospitals and smaller outpatient clinics. You’ll begin with Foundations of Nursing Practice and progresses through Care of the Adult I and Mental Health Nursing. The final course, Care of the Adult II, signifies the transition from student to novice professional nurse. Pursuing a nursing career involves more than just mastering practical skills; JWU’s program focuses on developing critical thinking, clinical judgment and leadership, which are essential for effective patient-centered healthcare delivery.

Build Your Skills at Nursing Clinicals
Students in our program gain hands-on experience in our simulation lab, where they listen to heartbeats, practice giving IVs, take blood pressure and other activities using high-fidelity mannequins. Following this, they participate in seven courses and clinical pairings to gain real-world healthcare training experience. While many clinicals are in Providence, students get to travel to nearby towns and cities including Woonsocket and Westerly.
Our clinical partnerships include Brown University Health, Care New England, and other long-term care facilities, and smaller outpatient and inpatient clinics. In the traditional basic clinical cohort, a maximum of eight students are assigned to a clinical site at the same time each week. Under the guidance of a clinical instructor, students are encouraged to perform tasks within their scope of practice. Nurses also collaborate with the cohort to assess patients and provide fundamental healthcare.

Associate Professor
Michelle Bull, DNP, RN, CNL is passionate about teaching and creating in an open and inclusive environment where students feel safe to learn and ask questions. She engages students in active learning strategies that allow them to think outside the box to expand their knowledge base.
Sim Manager and Assistant Professor
Lisa Dumont, PhD, RN, CNE, CDP specializes in teaching nursing students not only about nursing theory and clinical skills, but also incorporating holistic practices such as yoga, meditation, and breathwork into their curriculum.
Associate Professor
Judy Nicotera, DNP, RN, CNE has a career in nursing which spans four decades and has included many specialty areas such as pediatrics, critical care, critical care transport, outpatient infusion center, vascular access, and emergency care.
